This is how the Rector of the new University of Kolwezi (UNIKOL ), Professor Ipanga Tshibwila , began his speech to announce the birth of this new institution separated from the University of Lubumbashi (UNILU). HISTORY UNIKOL
History of the University of Kolwezi begins in 1997 when UNILU Rector, Professor Kakoma SAKATOLO ZAMBEZE at the request of notables and Kolwezi Kolwezi Civil Society, has agreed to open the Extension of the University of Lubumbashi to Kolwezi.
However, there is indeed a prehistory that. From the colonial period to the years 1958 and 1959 the idea of implementing a university in Kolwezi had already germinated. In 1960 it becomes effective when created the Extension of the University of Lovanium in Kolwezi. It was led by the Franciscan HANSEN RP. This Extension has worked in the College facilities Baldwin 1 st (Current Lualaba Institute). It lasted only the time of a dream: a single year. The events in the aftermath of Congo's independence forced officials to close its doors.
In 1984, the Rector VUNDWAWE TE Pemako revived the project of a university setting in Kolwezi: they created what was called "mobile university . This initiative was taken over by the Rectors BINGOTO MANDOKO NAMPEYA, LOMBEYA Bosongo and ALONI Komanda. The University operated until 1989, still on the premises of the College (Institute Lualaba). But this work is finally revealed as a failure: it failed, because a local coordination to host and mentor teachers, all from Lubumbashi. Among the organizers of this structure in Lubumbashi, we find Professor NSAMAN OLUTU, current head of the main CEPROMAD.
In 1994, the Higher Institute of Medical Technologies (ISTM) from Kolwezi, created first on private initiative, was incorporated into the UNILU as Rector Kilanga Musindi.
Only then in 1997 the creation of the Extension of UNILU Kolwezi will be a decisive departure for this university. The UNILU will rely on partnerships with various social Kolwezi which mainly Catholic Church, Gecamines and politico-administrative authorities. But there was also the participation of Protestant Churches, Orthodox and Kimbanguiste. Which allowed the extension of UNILU Kolwezi to return to the College facilities and occupy several buildings of Gecamines.
In 2004, the Extension has acquired, under the Rector UNILU, Kaumba LUFUNDA PRINCE status UNIVERSITY CENTER KOLWEZI (CUK), for a decisive phase Autonomous University. This was enforced by the Ministerial Decree No. 1 of MINESU/CABMIN/ESU/090/2004 st / 10/2004, establishing the University Center as a public institution of Kolwezi.

TYPE OF LESSONS AND STAFF
The UNIKOL organizes several courses of study. These include the Faculties of Law, Economics and Management, Medicine, Geology, Agronomy, Letters (Information Science and Communication), Psychology and Sciences of Education, Social, Political and Administrative, Polytechnique and Ecole Public Health.
