Monsignor Charles Mahuza Yava, Vicar Apostolic of the Comoros, was hosted this Saturday, October 9, 2010 at National Airport Kolwezi.

The 1 st May 2010, His Holiness appointed Father Mahuza Yava as the first Vicar Apostolic of the Comoros and Mayotte (Indian Ocean). Episcopal ordination took place June 19, 2010 in Moroni hands of His Excellency Bishop Denis Wiehe, Bishop of Port Victoria, Seychelles and Conference Chairman Bishops of the Indian Ocean (CEDOI).

Fr Charles Mahuza Yava, SDS was born July 29, 1958 in the territory of Sandoa, Diocese of Kolwezi, Democratic Republic of Congo. He is a member of the Society of the Divine Savior. He did his novitiate in Tanzania, he studied philosophy and theology at Kolwezi, in the Franciscan seminary Blessed John XXIII. He made his perpetual profession at Kolwezi September 8, 1991. He was ordained priest in Sandoa May 8, 1993 by HE Monsignor Songasonga. He served the following charges : 1993-1994: Parochial Vicar at Christ the King in the territory of Ntita Kapanga, 1994-1995: Studies Spirituality Centre Sevres in Paris, 1995-2000: master of novices at Kolwezi and Then in Lubumbashi; 1997-2003: Vicar Provincial; 2000-2003: Dean of Students; 2003-2009: Provincial Superior of the Vice Province Congolese for two successive terms in the second term, he is rather Provincial Superior of the Province of Salvatorian Africa (2006-2009); since 2010: parish priest in Moroni (Grande Comore). The new Apostolic Vicariate of the Comoros covers an area of about 2033 km2 with a population of 800,000 inhabitants. There are 6,000 Catholics in 3 parishes. Apostolic Administration of the Comoros Islands (1975) has been entrusted for decades to the Friars Minor Capuchin. In 1998, as the apostolic personnel were less likely it is passed to the Society of the Divine Savior (Salvatorians).
June 21, after the episcopal ordination, Bishop Charles was received by the Head of State of the Comoros.
