SPEECH BY THE ABBE COORDINATOR ON THE OCCASION OF THE DAY CATHOLIC EDUCATION JEC 2010

Reverend Fathers, Reverend Abbots, Reverend Sisters, Distinguished Guests
your respective capacities,
Heads of Establishments,
Dear Teachers,
Dear Students,
The Feast Day of Catholic Education is doubled this year to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the accession of our country to its independence.
In this celebration, we want to express our joy of belonging to this great country and also our pride in being teachers and educators in Catholic schools who have contributed for many years to train cadres of our nation.
is also for us in this day marking the end of the course, the opportunity to give thanks to God for the countless blessings He has given us throughout this school year 2009-2010, which draws slowly retires.
Distinguished guests,
The celebration of the fiftieth anniversary we impose a duty of memory the evolution of our schools in this country.
Upon arrival of Franciscan missionaries in the present Diocese of Kolwezi, they built schools in all missions. These are the missionaries who ran their schools. By the 1950s, the church hierarchy appointed school administrators. R. Father Ignatius Vercruyssen was one of those directors. He was later replaced by the RP Van Der Horst Gaston. This became the Inspector of Catholic Schools Mission Kolwezi Zairianization until 1974.
In 1974, the policies of former President of the Republic, Mobutu Sese Seko hardens into disfavor churches and especially the Catholic Church. That is why the political authorities of that time confiscated our schools and education entered the catacombs and became a monopoly of the State, to devote his secularism, replaced in the same year, in all our schools the current religion by the Education Policy (the Mobutu) and the cross of Jesus Christ gave way to the portrait of Mobutu. Since then, we saw schools deteriorate.
In 1977, Mobutu was forced to see its failure in the management of schools, he resolved surrender them to us, but in particularly miserable. We then signed a management agreement between state schools and Zairian Catholic Church. R. Father Van Der Horst Gaston will be the first Coordinator of Catholic Schools of Kolwezi after the signing of this Convention.
Then the church should get back to work not only to rehabilitate the infrastructure severely damaged by the MPR, but also to try to transform the mind. Arduous task, which we get down to today. Evil Zaire was very deep, he continued, in fact, until the Congolese present and rooted.
As Congo prepares to celebrate in a few weeks, the fiftieth anniversary of his accession to national sovereignty, it is more important to commit ourselves to a qualitative change in our teaching. You may say that it is the creed that keeps coming into the mouth of the Congo for years, but without changing anything! This admission of impotence is contradicted however by the efforts, however small they are, men and women who daily perform their teaching duties with dedication, loyalty and courage. It is with those that better tomorrow can be considered. And finally, everyone is invited to take the train of change for our schools if we love our country: political and administrative authorities, churches, school hierarchy, Business, business people and parents, we all have a role to play in the emergence of a brilliant education in Congo. Hope eve in our hearts the hope that students will become better and smarter than they are today, hope that parents will no longer pay the AFP, the source of many problems, hope that teachers, Professors and Heads of Institutions will only become more corrupt by their students or they will ask them not unduly money. Have I dream ... would say Martin Luther King. We believe, when we embark on the path Centennial (God we do happen!) That our hope will one day become a reality.
Distinguished Guests,
Finally, I will congratulate all those who have received the sacraments today, to thank, on behalf of His Grace Bishop, all authorities both local and provincial and national level that have occurred for education in our diocese. We thank all men and all women of goodwill who have helped us this school year, I think particularly the Salvatorian Fathers and benefactors in Europe for their substantial contribution to the rehabilitation of the EP in Mwanga Wa Taifa Complex Tupendane school.
Thank you all who have come to celebrate the JEC with us, thank you to those who have worked on this particular day the various committees of the JEC.
ask God's blessing for our education in the Congo.
Happy birthday to everyone!

I. HISTORY
Evangelization of the Diocese of Kolwezi began Kanzenze (Kolwezi 56km) in 1909. This was the work of the Fathers of the Congregation of Scheut. They were already established in the Kasai to near Mikalayi Luluabourg (present Kananga) since 1891. The Missionaries of Scheut began in 1909 to evangelize the country Kanzenze: Father CAMBIER was the first pioneer to arrive in Kanzenze. But the real founders of this mission were Fathers Vandermolen Instead, Vance and brother Hippolyte PROUD. They arrived at the Etoile du Congo (Lubumbashi) 6 March and September 1909, they reached Ruwe (Kolwezi). It was in October 1909 they finally reached Kanzenze. Fathers Scheutistes showed little enthusiasm for this mission located hundreds of miles Mikalayi. The letters P. Vandermolen at that time always express the complaints Kanzenze has a low population density, is a village far from great Mission of Scheutistes, etc..
However, these fathers are going to work for a decade and were replaced by the congregation of the Franciscans.
June 15, 1920, the Propaganda Fide (Rome) instructs the Franciscan Fathers to visit the Middle-Katanga region Lulua (which corresponds to part of the current Diocese of Kolwezi) . Indeed, Cardinal VAN ROSSUM had reported to Rome a rapid expansion of Protestantism in the region. Specifically, he wrote that: "The Protestants spread their pernicious teachings in this area. We can not observe it passively for a long time. The Belgian Cardinal received a favorable response from Rome. In June 1920 he handed the Very Reverend Father Albert Lismont, Provincial Minister of Belgium a letter in which he begged him to send many missionaries to this region. A few months later, Father Theophilus TIELEMANS another Father and sailed for the Congo. It was on 1 October 1920. They did not arrive in Katanga, and specifically Kanzenze, in April 1921 via Matadi.
other hand, having left Europe in mid-November 1920 and making their entrance through Africa South (Cape Town), the Franciscan Fathers and Sabin Valentin STAPPERS SERNEELS and the Brothers and Justin Remi BOEVER OF COSTER Katangans already trod the ground December 15, 1920. They settled in the deserted mission Kanzenze Scheutistes some time ago. Two other fathers will join the team Stappers Father: This is Father Florentine De Smedt and Ernest Van Avermaet. In 1922, the Franciscans founded the mission Sandoa. With these two mission stations, the Holy See thought it appropriate to build this country Prefecture. It was called Prefecture Apostolic of Lulua-Central Katanga, was the 18 July 1922. Father Valentin STAPPERS was appointed Prefect Apostolic.
work quickly evolved, other mission stations will emerge: KAFAKUMBA in 1925, POST-Dilolo KAPANGA in 1927 and 1929. It should be noted that Protestants were already working at Methodist Kapanga (Musumba) since 1913. The Apostolic Prefect
moved to Luabo (Kamina) which was transferred the seat of the Prefecture. The whole area of Kamina (with Bukama, Kabondo Kayeye, Kinkondja, etc.). Was, in fact Prefecture.
The Holy noticed the good evolution of this situation and to reward enthusiasm missionary, he passed the Franciscan mission of Lulua-Katanga Central status to that of Prefecture Apostolic Vicariate, February 26, 1934. STAPPERS Bishop was appointed the same day Vicar Apostolic and Father VQN AVERMAETE, Pro-Vicar and Vicar Delegate.
